Handrails for the new Avon River Bridge

Handrails for the new Avon River Bridge

We are proud to have been a tier supplier for handrails on the new Avon River Bridge at Stratford, Victoria. It’s part of Rail Projects Victoria’s upgrade of the Gippsland Line which will deliver improved train services to the growing communities of Gippsland.

The project was finished ahead of schedule, and during the pandemic – a great outcome for everyone involved. Trains will begin crossing the bridge in early December 2020.

In December 2018, Heritage Council of Victoria included the old Avon River Bridge on the Victorian Heritage Register. The bridge was considered significant due to its clear association with the development of Victoria’s railway network.

The new Avon River Bridge will improve reliability for passenger train services. Trains will be able to travel at up to 90 km/h on the new structure, a significant improvement on the 10 km/h speed limit on the old bridge.

A key focus of Rail Projects Victoria’s upgrade of the Gippsland Line has been growing local jobs and capability. Construction and infrastructure projects in the regions create huge flow-on effect for local communities, providing work as well as training opportunities. In this case many local subcontractors were engaged as part of the project.
